Google’s March 2026 Core Update Is Done: What to Check Before You Change Anything
Google's first broad core update of 2026 ran from 27 March to 8 April, right after a spam update finished on 24 March. Here's how to read your data, especially with Eid traffic in the mix.

In short:
- The March 2026 core update started on 27 March and finished on 8 April, about 12 days.
- It followed a spam update that finished on 24 March, and February’s Discover-only core update.
- For Pakistani sites, Eid (around the third week of March) distorts traffic. Compare carefully before reacting.
Google released its first broad core update of 2026 on 27 March and confirmed it was complete on 8 April, according to the Google Search Status Dashboard. It rolled out globally from the start. Google didn’t publish new, update-specific advice; its standard core update guidance still applies.
It came straight after a spam update that finished on 24 March, so some sites saw two sets of changes in quick succession.
Separate the signals
For Pakistani websites, late March 2026 was messy: the end of Ramadan, Eid holidays and two Google updates. Before deciding anything:
- Compare against last year’s Eid period, not just the previous weeks.
- Check whether the drop started before 27 March. If so, it may be the spam update or seasonality, not the core update.
- Look at page groups: blog, product, category and service pages often move differently.
- Check for manual actions in Search Console, especially if traffic fell sharply around the spam update.
If you lost visibility
- Review your weakest content honestly. Is it the best answer, or just another version of what everyone has?
- Check for scaled or thin pages, such as many near-identical location or “price in Pakistan” pages.
- Improve pages with first-hand information, clear authorship and current details.
If you gained
Find which pages improved and why. Then update older pages in the same style. Gains from one core update aren’t guaranteed to hold through the next.
