Google’s March 2025 Core Update Is Complete: A Checklist for Site Owners

Google's first core update of 2025 ran from 13 to 27 March. Here's how to check whether it affected your site, and a practical checklist for the months ahead.

Google’s March 2025 Core Update Is Complete: A Checklist for Site Owners

In short:

  • Google’s March 2025 core update started on 13 March and finished on 27 March, close to Google’s “up to two weeks” estimate.
  • The biggest swings were reported around 14–16 March, 20–22 March and 26 March.
  • With Eid traffic shifts this week, compare carefully before drawing conclusions.

Google confirmed its first core update of 2025 on 13 March and marked it complete on 27 March. Google described it as a regular update to its core ranking systems to surface more relevant, satisfying content. SEO tracking tools showed the main volatility peaks on 14–16 March, 20–22 March and 26 March.

Careful: Ramadan and Eid affect your data

For Pakistani sites, this update landed in the middle of Ramadan, with Eid right after. Search behaviour changes a lot in these weeks: some categories surge (fashion, gifts, food) and others drop. Before blaming or crediting the update, compare with the same period last Ramadan, not just the previous month.

Checklist

  1. Compare in Search Console: 2 weeks after 27 March vs the 2 weeks before 13 March, then the same Ramadan weeks in 2024.
  2. Find the pages that moved most. Sort by click change and focus on your top 20 pages.
  3. Check the searches you lost. Search them yourself. What kind of page now ranks: a forum, a big brand, a marketplace, a guide?
  4. Match the intent. If Google now prefers buying guides over product pages for a query, consider creating one.
  5. Update stale content. Prices, availability, screenshots and dates.
  6. Fix technical issues: pages excluded from indexing, slow mobile pages, broken internal links.
  7. Don’t make big changes during a rollout. Wait, measure, then act.

Our take

Core updates are now frequent enough that chasing each one is a waste of time. The sites that come through them well keep improving every month. Make “is this the most useful page for this search?” a monthly habit, not a panic response.
