Google’s June 2025 Core Update: A Big One, With Some Surprise Recoveries
Google's June 2025 core update ran from 30 June to 17 July. Data providers called it a big update, and some sites hit back in 2023 finally recovered. Here's what to learn from it.

In short:
- The June 2025 core update started on 30 June and finished on 17 July, about 16 days.
- The heaviest volatility came around 11–14 July. Some sites hit by the 2023 helpful content update saw partial recoveries.
- Recovery is possible, but only for sites that genuinely improved. There is no quick fix.
Google released the June 2025 core update on 30 June and confirmed it was complete on 17 July. Google had said it could take up to three weeks. Ranking changes appeared from around 2 July, with the most intense movement from 11 to 14 July. SEO data providers described it as a big update.
Recoveries are real
The most interesting part of this update: some sites that lost heavily in the September 2023 helpful content update finally saw partial recoveries. Many other sites saw significant declines. In other words, Google re-scored sites, and sites that had improved over the past 18 months were finally rewarded.
What recovering sites tend to have done
- Removed or rewrote large amounts of thin, search-first content.
- Focused on fewer topics they truly know well.
- Added real expertise: named authors, original photos, testing and first-hand experience.
- Reduced intrusive ads and pop-ups that hurt reading.
- Improved site speed and mobile experience.
What to do if you dropped
- Find the pattern. Did all pages drop, or one section? Section-level drops usually point to a content quality issue in that section.
- Compare with winners. For your main keywords, what do the pages now ranking have that yours don’t?
- Improve, don’t just update dates. Changing the date without changing the substance doesn’t help.
- Be patient. Improvements usually show at the next core update, not next week.
